It was April 1912. The survivors had barely touched New York soil when the real reckoning began. Bruce Ismay, head of the White Star Line, was among the first to sit in the hot seat. He was there. But the senators didn’t care about his presence. They cared about the math.
The math was simple and horrifying. The Titanic carried lifeboats for only 970 people. That wasn’t a rounding error. That meant roughly half the souls on board were effectively dead before the iceberg ever struck.
